How does a circularly polarized horn antenna work

Circularly polarized horn antenna is an antenna commonly used in wireless communication systems. Its working principle is based on the propagation and polarization characteristics of electromagnetic waves. First, understand that electromagnetic waves can have different polarization methods, including horizontal polarization, vertical polarization and circular polarization. Horizontal polarization means that the electric field vector oscillates along the horizontal direction, and vertical polarization means that the electric field vector oscillates along the vertical direction. In circular polarization, the oscillation directions in the vertical and horizontal directions exist simultaneously, forming a rotating electric field vector. Circularly polarized horn antenna achieves circularly polarized radiation of electromagnetic waves through special design and structure. It usually consists of a horn-shaped reflector and an oscillator connected to the horn cavity. When electromagnetic waves enter the circularly polarized horn antenna, they first enter the cavity through the vibrator. The design of the oscillator causes electromagnetic waves to undergo multiple reflections and refractions on the surface of the reflector in the cavity, which can increase the radiation efficiency of electromagnetic waves. Through precise geometric design and reflector shape, the circularly polarized horn antenna can adjust the propagation path of the electromagnetic wave in the cavity according to the frequency of the electromagnetic wave and the size of the oscillator, so that it can produce circularly polarized radiation. The working principle of a circularly polarized horn antenna can be summarized as the following steps:

The electromagnetic waves enter the cavity through the vibrator.

Electromagnetic waves are reflected and refracted on the reflector surface in the cavity, changing their propagation path.

After multiple reflections and refractions, electromagnetic waves form circularly polarized radiation.

Circularly polarized electromagnetic waves are radiated through the horn and used for wireless communications.

In general, the circularly polarized horn antenna achieves circularly polarized radiation of electromagnetic waves through special design and structure.Such antennas are widely used in wireless communication systems and can provide more stable and reliable signal transmission.
