Dual Polarized Horn Antenna Working Mode

The dual-polarized horn antenna can transmit and receive horizontally polarized and vertically polarized electromagnetic waves while keeping the position state unchanged, so that the system position deviation error caused by changing the antenna position in order to meet the requirements of polarization switching is eliminated, improving system accuracy. Dual-polarized horn antennas have the advantages of high gain, good directivity, high polarization isolation, and large power capacity, and have been widely studied and used. Dual polarized antennas can support linear, elliptical, and circular polarized waveforms.

Main Working Mode:

Receive Mode
• When the antenna receives a linearly polarized vertical waveform, only the vertical port can receive it, and the horizontal port is isolated.
• When the antenna receives a linearly polarized horizontal waveform, only the horizontal port can receive it, and the vertical port is isolated.
• When the antenna receives elliptical or circularly polarized waveforms, the vertical and horizontal ports receive the vertical and horizontal components of the circularly polarized signal, respectively. Depending on left-handed circular polarization (LHCP) or right-handed circular polarization (RHCP) of the waveform, there will be a 90 degree phase lag or lead between the ports. If the waveform is perfectly circularly polarized, the signal amplitude from the ports will be the same. By using an appropriate (90 degree) bridge, the vertical and horizontal components can be combined to restore a circular or elliptical waveform.

Launch Mode
• When the antenna is fed from a vertical port, a vertically linearly polarized waveform is transmitted.
• Transmits horizontal linearly polarized waveforms when the antenna is fed from the horizontal port.
• When the antenna is fed by 90 degree phase difference, equal amplitude signals to the vertical and horizontal ports, LHCP or RHCP waveforms are transmitted depending on the phase lag or lead between the two signals. If the signal amplitudes at the two ports are not equal, an elliptically polarized waveform is transmitted.

Transceiver Mode
• When the antenna is used in transmit and receive mode, due to the isolation between the vertical and horizontal ports, simultaneous transmission and reception are possible, such as vertical transmission and horizontal reception in communication systems.
