A Dual-Polarized Log Periodic Antenna is an advanced type of log-periodic antenna capable of simultaneously or selectively radiating and receiving two orthogonal polarizations—typically two linear polarizations such as vertical and horizontal—within a single antenna structure.
Its structural design typically involves two sets of log-periodic radiating elements arranged in an interleaved fashion (e.g., two LPDA crossed at 90 degrees) or a common radiating structure with two independent feed networks. Each feed network is responsible for exciting one polarization, and high isolation between these ports is crucial to prevent signal interference.
The key advantage of this antenna is that it combines the wideband characteristics of a traditional log-periodic antenna with dual-polarization capability. This capability allows for effective utilization of multipath effects and enables polarization diversity, thereby increasing channel capacity and improving communication link reliability. It is widely used in modern communication systems (like MIMO), base station antennas, EMC testing, and scientific measurements.
